Pedal 4 Pooches Event Brings Attention to Las Vegas Animals
Posted by New Home Resource on September 12, 2016 in
Autumn is almost upon us, and almost as soon as it launches itself (that would be September 22 – for those who keep track of these things) – our New Home Resource team is going to be taking to the street in support of Las Vegas pets who need our help!
More specifically, we’re super-jazzed about the upcoming “Pedal 4 Pooches” event that comes around every year – thanks to a couple of devoted, local animal lovers who work hard to make it happen.
This annual bicycle ride takes place every fall around this time – and this year, it will all happen on Saturday, October 1. Starting at 8:00am, enthusiastic supporters (like all of us pet-lovin’ New Home Resource folks!) will take to the Henderson roads on our bicycles to help bring awareness to the plight of homeless pets in our valley – and to raise funds and accept donations that are sorely needed.
Hosted by local pet-lovers Barry and Karen Lasko (and you can check out the Facebook event here) – “Pedal 4 Pooches” invites everyone – riders and non-riders alike – to bring their donations of pet food, blankets, beds, towels, etc. – all of which will be given to local animal charities. And as we all know, animal rescue organizations are always in need of monetary assistance to provide medical and other care for their charges – so any donations of funds will be passed on in their entirety, as well.
We’re excited to take part in – and help share the news – about this fun, family-friendly event that brings together people for a wonderful common cause, gets us all outdoors and moving in this great autumn Las Vegas weather, and to icing on the cake is: the event all wraps up with a BBQ at the Lasko’s home. (Fun, friends, family, and food – the most important “Four F’s” ever!)
Pets play a major role in our lives, as shown by decades of scientific study that confirm their importance to our physical and mental health, our sense of well-being, and even to banish loneliness. Not that we need the research to convince us – because our pets have been saving our sanity and bringing us joy and happiness for, well, Ever!
Their unconditional love is, unfortunately, not always reciprocated. There are so many pets in need here in Las Vegas, that helping to lighten that burden and bring awareness of their needs to our community is of particular importance to everyone at New Home Resource.
So we invite you to join us on October 1 – and if you’d like to play an important role in helping homeless animals, too – contact our office at (702) 365-1000 to find out how you can participate in the ride, make a donation, or maybe even do just a little bit more! Remember – all those furry little paws are counting on you! ☺

11 Holiday Ideas To Make You Smile (Or Say, “That’s Brilliant!”)
Posted by New Home Resource on November 30, 2015 in
One of the best things about buying a home? If you ask us, it’s about creating all those new holiday traditions! All the fun and festivities, the family and friends, the feasts and the falalalala’s. It’s a season we look forward to (presents & food!) – we dread (all that work, work, work to make it all perfect) – and we cherish (memories – both good and bad – whichever, they all make up our unique life stories).
We’d like to share some fun things centered on the holidays that we found and that put a smile on our faces. We hope they do for you, too!
A tree to remember. True story (<—-get it?) – because all your visitors will definitely be telling their friends about this one. Imaginatively simple and appropriately studious at the same time – this one tells the perfect tale about the host: Give me books for Christmas!
And for those who would like to take their Christmas tree in a different direction (<—ha! did it again!): An old ladder, a few boards, a little paint, and then bring on the lights and decorations!
What is better than a gift – that’s also food? (Other than a new Jaguar, we mean.) At least it’s great if you have people on your gift list that are passionate about their baking hobbies. Great tip: Offer a gift of holiday-shaped cookie cutters – but bake brownies in them for presentation. Fun, tasty, AND useful!
If presentation is everything, then we’d just like to say we need a few of these around to present our hors d’oeuvres for our holiday party. Arrange your mints on a parchment-lined pan, bake at 350-degrees for 5-8 minutes (watch them closely, though), turn out and let cool. A fantastically-easy and creative way to present your menu in style – and then hey, you can just eat ’em! (A neat twist: Use Jolly Ranchers….we hear they come out like stained-glass windows!)
Decorative balloons placed on a Frappuccino bottle + Ribbons = Are you kiddin’ me? How creative is this? An impressive and inexpensive packaging idea – great if you’re making homemade items such as bath salts or scrubs as gifts. We’ll take two, thanks!
And speaking of packaging, is this the greatest idea for wrapping children’s gifts EVER? We’re betting they’ll be so entranced, they’ll forget about the present INside. At least for awhile. (We know a few adults who would do the same thing!)
Gift Wrapping 101 continues with this clever presentation that will ensure no one at the office party is switching name tags on your Secret Santa deliveries! Note the cinnamon stick for a festive aroma, and the live greenery to enhance the effect.
We wonder how many of those paint-chip cards they have to keep in stock at Home Depot around the holidays?
Keep the kids in the spirit by assigning them the task of making these adorable GrinchKabobs for your holiday events. Or heck, just for breakfast. Green grape, banana, strawberry, mini marshmallow, and a candy heart on top. Couldn’t be simpler – or more fun (especially when they start piping the chocolate expressions on!)
Finally, if you’ve ever wondered how bakeries manage to create those adorable, individual lattice-topped holiday tarts, look no further. (It’s a little bit like exposing a magician’s secret, huh?) Eh – no matter. We figure we can use all the cheat-sheets we can get this time of year.
Whatever your holiday this season, and whatever your personal tastes – we truly believe they’ll all be better served in a home of your very own. If you’d like to make it happen for your family, let’s chat about it over the eggnog!

What is the special meaning of Thanksgiving?
Posted by New Home Resource on November 13, 2012 in
What is the true meaning of Thanksgiving? We often ask ourselves that question.
When we do think about Thanksgiving, we think about being in a warm home with family, friends, food, laughter and fun. Thanksgiving is the one time of the year that everyone comes together to give thanks and show appreciation by spending time and enjoying each other’s company.
So when you think about Thanksgiving, what is the most favorable memory that stayed with you? Was it the yummy smell of baking pies in the oven? Or was it stealing pieces of the turkey as it was carved every year? Or the home in which you were raised that gave the family a holiday experience they will never forget? I remember my Thanksgivings moments. Do you? Share them with us……..
From all of us at New Home Resource, we wish you a holiday filled with food and laughter, and all of the good things that make memories last a lifetime.
